I am so excited to find new passions here at CMU through trying new things and meeting new people. But entering this new experience a few of the things I am passionate about include…
Working with young children. I have been employed at Goldfish Swim School of Rochester for two years as a swim teacher, lifeguard and supervisor. In these positions I was able to effect the development and lives of children on daily basis. The quote “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life” truly exemplifies my experience at GSS. To be a part in growing young children’s confidence and teaching them a life skills was not a job but an gift. This experience helped me to grow as a person and a leader in many aspects.
Advocating for the special needs population. In high school I swam on the varsity swim team for 4 years. During this experience I met my best friend Ashley. Ashley has down syndrome and opened my eyes to the concept that special needs is not a disability but truly makes a person special and unique. Many say I positively changed Ashley’s high school experience, but she positively changed my entire life.
Leadership. I was a member of my high school student government where I was the executive board president my senior year. Through StuGo I became involved in an organization called Michigan Association of Student Councils and Honors Societies. Through this organization I met my closest friends who push me to be better and change the world. Now as a Leadership Advancement Scholar I will be studying the concept of leadership to develop skills to become the next generation of ethical leaders.
I hope to grow my passions at Central so that I can go out and take my new found skills to better not only my community but the world.
